BACK IN TAHOE!

and it feels good to be home!

Its been a long tough road but we finally made it back. I have been gone for a month and been through some of the scariest and some of the most amazing times of my life. Memories for sure, but looking to the future there are good things happening soon!

Danny Toumarkine

Yesterday afternoon we were taking our last few runs of the day at Teton Pass and we had just gotten off of the lift after being stuck there for 30 minutes. We wanted to get a few more shots before heading into the lodge and calling it a day. we found a knoll between trails to jump off of and I dropped first, shortly after I landed Danny dropped. He did a backside 180 and landed in such a way that he couldnt tell he was headed off the trail. Danny immediately slammed on the brakes on his toeside edge as he realized what was going on. He went into the trees feet first.

When we got up to him we found him face down in the snow between two trees and unconscious. After he came to, the ski patrollers had already started to arrive and attempted to stabilize him. He was heli-vac'd to Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, MT. His vitals are stable and he is showing some cognitive abilities but by no means is this going to be an easy time for him or his friends and family.  The brain trauma has caused swelling which will continue for 3 days. This time is critical. We ask you to keep your thoughts and prayers with Danny in his time of need.

If this event has taught us anything it is that we cannot deny the danger that lurk behind every little feature and insignificant trick that we try. we must always be prepared for the worst regardless of style, outward appearance and ability level. We as snow sports enthusiasts have a responsibility to wear our helmets and protect ourselves. If not for our own safety then at the very least to set a good example as role models to other snowboarders.

I for one vow to wear my helmet EVERYTIME I wear my snowboard.

We love you Danny.

WOAH?!?!?! Welcome to Montana... we didnt think you would survive the drive

The longest travel day I have ever had minus the time I went to Capetown South Africa. I can believe I did this, here is the breakdown: stay up all night and party with my friends in mass, depart party at 3:30am, drive to Logan International arrive at 3:45, stand in line to check my bags until 4:45, somehow made my flight at 5:15 (I had to cut the line and race through security) flew to Dallas and chilled. Flights delayed chilled some more. After 3 hrs realized I left my jacket on the other plane, ran back to the other terminal found it on the ground by the desk (HOLY CRAP DID NOT EXPECT THAT!) RAD ok so ran back and my flight was boarding. awesome.

Land in Denver at 1:15 (only an hour late). My board bag didn't make the fight, wait an extra hour or my bag good got it. Next i have to hop a bus into Denver and meet up with this kid who is friends with Conor. watched a dvd in his new house, got some grub at this sick mexican joint called Little Anitas. Then drove myself back to the Denver airport with the Shreddy Times vehicle. Waited a few hours for the Toumarkines to show up. They got off their only slightly delayed flight at 11:15pm.

We all packed the car full with little room for anything else and started our treacherous drive. the roads are snowy, icy and visibility is about 20 feet. at 4am we had had enough, pulled over and called it a night at a motel. settled in started coughing, after about an hour of sleep i wake up to find my nose had been bleeding for a minute. blood all over my pillow and the sheets. woke up got cleaned up and flipped the pillow. In the morning I gave the attendant $20 and said sorry about the sheets. 9am day two of traveling begins. We start driving again only to find that some of the roads are only half covered in snow and some are totally covered in ice. It took us a long and terrifying 18hrs to get to our hotel in Choteau, Montana, and oh yeah did I mention its New Years Eve?

We arrive in Choteau at 10:45 pm, this gave Conor and I 15 minutes to get our bags inside and rid our selves of the stink we had attained from a 18hr car ride and 1 stop at McDonalds before the next 45 minute bus ride to the mountain showed up. Flash forward through nearly an hour of chugging beers in the back of a VERY bumpy bus ride, on icy roads, speeding over 65 mph around corners, and meeting 3 other poor souls in that retched environment. We find ourselves in a 'lodge'/small bar which was about the size of our home in Tahoe City, and just barley do we realize this when we hear 10.. 9.. 8.. oh shit we made it Conor! HAPPY NEW YEARRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! Welcome to Montana.

Christmas on the east, oh what a beast

Got home and didn't stop I had to leave. The east coast is always gonna be home and I know that now, Once I got back I went to Killington for a premiere then rode Mt Snow the next day then loon the day after that. my mum missed me so much she came to pick me up at loon (a 3 hr drive) cus I hadn't even been to my house or seen any of my family yet.

The day after loon was Christmas eve so I went for a few laps at good old Lost Valley and finished wrapping the gifts I got for my family. Then made some sugar cookies with my aunt and went to Christmas eve mass. When I woke up in the morning I found a new avalanche beacon, shovel and probe awaiting me under the tree. My mum hooked it up this year so I can go get taught a few lessons by Mother Nature in the backcountry and not die while I learn, THANKS MUM!

The day after Christmas I went back to Loon for the annual ReLOONion which was a rad time! all sorts of friends showed up and it was good to see everybody. Next was a sunrise handrail in NH with Nevins and Hallowell and then another in ME all before my 1pm dentist appointment.  That night I finally rode street in my hometown of Augusta, ME with my buddies dad Eric shooting photos. I had been waitingto do that for years.

To round it off I had a nice down day at home with my fam and then a 5am flight to head west toward Montana. Never once stopped to smell the roses but they always smell the same so I'm not hurting about it. I'd rather see my friends and just live life to the fullest :) I think I did that on this trip. Thankyou everyone!
