ColoRADo

Well I made it to Breckenridge then took a quick nap to catch up on sleep. I woke up round 6pm and drove down to the Snowboard Colorado relaese party with the premiere of Flow Snowboarding's "Was Here" and a late night very drunken performance by the one and only Dirt Nasty! After tossing back beer after beer after free beer, and dancing my ass off, me and my buddy Ryan Dee headed back to a friends place to crash for the night. Dee accompanied me to this party under the title of "#1 Wing Man of all time"

Anyway, woke up round 7:30 am and drove up to Breck to drop off Dee, there was a major traffic jam due to an exploded truck but it was over in a quick 2 HOURS!... finally made it up to the top and dropped Dee off at Breck then drove to 'the Stone' for some shred around noon. Great day of riding and the season is going full force now. Going to try to ride 5 days a week every week until spring from now on. Life is a mission :)

Ogden, UT

Said goodbye to Tahoe and the people that live there this morning and hopped in my car with all my worldlies headed east. I found myself going 80mph on 80 east for 8 hours only had to make one stop cus my suby gets about 30mpg even when fully loaded with gear. Its a funny thing how road trips seem to be the divider wall on the cubical segments of my life. I expect new chapters to start every time I sit in my car for more than 4 hrs. If you're like me then you know this cant be a bad thing at all. its always about an opportunity to get to the next stage, progressing in life so to speak.

I have been to UT 3 times before but this is the first time I have been here alone. and then when I get here I am welcomed into a house with 6 other people who live for snowboarding just like me. I have only met one of these Wasatch Project members before and he is the one who convinced me to join the program for the season. Dustin Linker heads this operation and i have to say I love what he's done with the place... literally remodeling this house as we speak and figuratively remodeling young snowboard stars careers. Thanks for having me Dustin, I am stoked for the start of an awesome season!

Stay tuned for opening day at Keystone, CO on Friday!

TaHO(e)ME

I have been in Tahoe for a few days now, the journey was a long one; I went to the 9:30 Art of Flight Premiere in Boulder, CO on Wednesday night. That movie is the most amazing thing I have seen in a while... blew my mind. After the premiere let out I went to the party at the bar across the street, it was trivia night there but I didn't have the mindset to start drinking and sit still to answer somebody else's questions, I wanted to DO SOMETHING! So, after one beer I hopped in my car and drove north to Cheyenne Wyoming, (its actually the quicker way to head west from boulder) where I decided it was time to take a nap around 2 a.m.at the truck stop where 25N meets 80W.

BBBRBRHRBHRBRHBRHRBHBRBR!!!!!! the sound of a semi engine braking wakes me up at 4 a.m. I get back to the drivers side of my car, start her up and away I go down 80W. When you drive alone in a car for that long your mind begins to wander.... "This is an ambitious effort to get to Tahoe as soon as possible! makes me feel a little crazy", "I miss my friends and I am sick of being alone on the open road", "how do those trucker dudes do this for a living? I would just quit after a week". Thoughts like these raced in and out of my head vanishing into oblivion as quickly as they had appeared.

My mind was constantly onto the next thing, it seemed that time passed faster for me that way which was good to me at the moment because I just wanted to get there. For a moment I thought it would have been impossible to enjoy this drive. Then I allowed myself to envision the drive as being a part of my life, an experience worth having, "what could I gain from this?" I asked myself. Encouraged by the lack of interesting conversations I had had alone in the car in the previous 48 hrs, I began to see the positive side of my time spent alone. I had plenty of time to reflect on myself and understand where I was at in my life. It was all very heart warming and epiphanous. Then I looked at the clock and only 10 minutes had passed when it had seemed like an hour. "I dont want to be in this car anymore!"

I took in the value of my thought experiment; if you want to slow time down, then you can. Being that time is perceived and never moves at a constant pace, we can all eventually see the correlation between rushing through something and how little we remember about it. I think this sense is strongly tied to how our memory absorbs the information we give it. If you're speeding by the roses doing 85 in your subaru, then you wont remember what they smelled like. So I guess the moral is stop for a minute or two everyday, and you will be able to see a part of life that you never did before. It will be beautiful and one can get a great deal more out of those two minutes than they ever did chugging coffee and driving an hour to work screaming at the other people in traffic to go faster.

Anyway, after that though had passed I had hundreds of miles to get through, but I made it. pulled into a car wash in Reno, NV around 3:45 p.m. Had them scrape all the bugs off my car, I felt so murderous when I saw them all plastered on my bumper, their final wish in life was most likely to find food, only to be answered with a SPLAT! at 85mph...OH WOW! I felt that feeling again, like I had been wasting time until this moment where I took a second to admire the little things. I found the balance I was looking for. Life is no race, however, if you want to spend the entire time just admiring the splattered bugs on your bumper and feeling bad for them, then you wont ever get anything done in life. So I like to just take those few minutes everyday and try to live in infinity for whatever its worth, good or bad.

4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Made it to my close friend Cheyanne's house in Incline Village, NV, where I am living for the next month. I looked back at my drive and felt accomplishment, disgust, joy, sadness, and all those things that you might feel when u reflect on a good chuck of intense time. But I didn't feel any regret so I knew that I was doing the right thing.

Welcomed myself to Tahoe with some partying and a fun weekend. now I'm sitting here hoping for snow to fall soon so I can post videos to this blog instead of sappy, meaningful life lessons that I will never forget.

Made it.

long drive, Canada was hot and sticky, had a lot of fun at Yellowstone, saw Devils Tower, A huge herd of Bison, Mt Rushmore, Elsworth airforce base, Niagara falls, a Grizzly bear, the Tetons, an old friend, Chicago and over 200 pa-diddles. I also saw a friend and gained a passenger in Wisconsin (Never though that would happen), Opened SEVERAL beers, ate some steak, went up a tower (for free), revolved a few times then descended a tower, saw a movie, ate some ice cream, rode the Maid of the Mist and walked into America, took a photo and walked back to Canada. some good shit, alot happened in 7 days. its was a straight shot from tahoe to yellowstone, took 15 hrs overnight starting at 5 pm. Arriving for sunrise in The Tetons, I was not going to let myself sleep till sundown. I saw the park all day after being awake for 24hrs when I arrived there at 8am. That means by the time it was sundown I was awake for 35hrs. I was pooped.

Anyway, I drove pretty hard to get to my buddy joel (western South Dakota) the next day. Saw Rushmore, a bar with a nightclub downstairs (didn't think I'd see that in SD), the bottom of a lot of beers/Mixed drinks, the floor of joel's room. Woke up and headed for Wisconsin, short story, I got there (not much happened in between). I arrive at Kaila's and hug Cheyanne for the first time in what seemed to be a great while. The next morning we left Kailas in a hurry to get to Chris in Guelph, Ontario. I was a fairly scenic drive, some cool examples of stunning Architecture and Engineering in Chicago. and a decent view of the great lakes. we got into Canada during the day light but didnt have much for our drive, we got to Guelph at 10pm and stayed for two days with Chris saw some new people, played beach volleyball, had a good meal, and had a good friend there the whole time, well 2 really. Then we headed to Niagara and spent 1 day and 1 morning exploring the various attractions at the falls, then made our way to Massachusetts where the Sawyer family was kind enough to treat me to a great meal and great atmosphere.

The last day of my drive was my birthday; June 3rd. I made it home in 5 hrs from Cheyanne's house in time for birthday dinner at longhorn with my madre, my aunt and my brother. A good Journey It was, full of life, energy and passion. It was not as I expected, but then again, it never is. Road trips are fun, they are eye opening but theres something about sitting in a car for 12 hrs a day 5 days a week just sucks. It is because of this I have made a huge life decision: ladies and Gentlemen, I have decided to NEVER BE A CROSS COUNTRY TRUCKER...

...I know shocking right?

Driving back to Maine, just because

Cross country drives are long, they are costly, they are bad for your vehicle and they can be more physically demanding than most would guess. None of these are good reasons to drive cross country, so why am I doing it? I want to see more of this country which I call home, and a little bit of our neighbor to the north. Yellowstone, Bear Tooth Pass, Badlands, Detroit, Toronto, Niagara Falls and to finish it off I will arrive at my home in Maine.

My girlfriend of 4 months, Cheyanne, will be joining me when I pass through Wisconsin. She started her drive a week before me with her roommate from school Kaila, who hails from WI. She has never been to the falls or Canada so this will certainly be a great part of the trip for her. I, on the other hand, have been to Canada before not to say its not exciting but the part of this journey which I am most interested in is the solo section at the start. Its a 12 hour drive from Tahoe to Yellowstone, I don't expect to stop for much other than gas along the route. its an adventure though so who knows. So, here I go, wish me luck, this is going to be a long journey and hopefully a fun, rewarding and eye opening experience which will create memories that last a life-time.... or it could just be a miserable trudge through the northern half of our country, who knows.

Super Park!

HOLY JUMPS BATMAN!

it was certainly a new experience for me to go down the trails of super park and stand above every feature thinking what I usually only get to think once a year; "I know the speed, I know its fast, but I've got this..." Having to psyche myself up for every jump was a great feeling, I finally have gotten comfortable hitting jumps that i haven't gotten comfortable on yet.  Each jump had a different shape and something unique about it that i had never ridden before. My favorite jump was the second biggest one at super park, it was about 80 feet to the knuckle and close to 95 to the sweet spot. At first i sent a few straight airs and then some back threes, back sevens and eventually a back ten on it the ten i landed second try and I couldn't have been more stoked. Throughout the week I hit every feature created for super park and I can honestly say it was the most intimidating park i have ever been to. There were hips and big jumps and wall rides and big drop rails and cannon step ups and cliff drop step downs and everything else u could think of. one of the best weeks of shredding i have ever had and I managed to stay in one piece the whole week, only a few hairy moments scattered here and there. I had a great time and saw a great deal of old friends out killing it on ever feature. Yale, Luke, Ian, Eric, Jeff, Tarjei, Collin, Adam, Aaron, Jeremy, Trip, Pete, Forest, Riley and so many more people who I have seen all year showed up and threw down. it was a killer week on all fronts.

Thanks again to Pat Bridges for the Invite. Hopefully i will find some videos or photos with me in em to post here very soon. Until then this shot from my GoPro should suffice.

Bend, Oregon: day 1- the long drive...

I have gathered up my life and prepared to move, once again...everything I own. I have put things in a storage locker, I have packed up my bags and I have said goodbyes, but whats wrong here? I am only leaving Tahoe for a week to head to Super Park in Bend Oregon. why do I need to move out? Because the week after i get back from SP15 I leave for Alyeska, AK for four more weeks.

The drive today was quick and painless at only 444 miles in 8 and 1/2 hours. Saw some scenery, saw some people but not many, oh and the wildlife; a small bird hit my grill (mind you I cleaned the last dead bird off my grill only 2 days ago, it had been there all winter), I saw a hawk and a bunch of bugs are now visiting my windshield in the most unpleasant manner for the last few seconds of their existence. There was also a miniature dust storm in my car, the brunt of which was felt by my Co-Pilot who can't drive my standard Jeep named Trip Brown. Being the good co-pilot he has allowed me to stay in his hotel room. I am stoked for the first day of SP15 tomorrow!

Danny Toumarkine

Yesterday afternoon we were taking our last few runs of the day at Teton Pass and we had just gotten off of the lift after being stuck there for 30 minutes. We wanted to get a few more shots before heading into the lodge and calling it a day. we found a knoll between trails to jump off of and I dropped first, shortly after I landed Danny dropped. He did a backside 180 and landed in such a way that he couldnt tell he was headed off the trail. Danny immediately slammed on the brakes on his toeside edge as he realized what was going on. He went into the trees feet first.

When we got up to him we found him face down in the snow between two trees and unconscious. After he came to, the ski patrollers had already started to arrive and attempted to stabilize him. He was heli-vac'd to Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, MT. His vitals are stable and he is showing some cognitive abilities but by no means is this going to be an easy time for him or his friends and family.  The brain trauma has caused swelling which will continue for 3 days. This time is critical. We ask you to keep your thoughts and prayers with Danny in his time of need.

If this event has taught us anything it is that we cannot deny the danger that lurk behind every little feature and insignificant trick that we try. we must always be prepared for the worst regardless of style, outward appearance and ability level. We as snow sports enthusiasts have a responsibility to wear our helmets and protect ourselves. If not for our own safety then at the very least to set a good example as role models to other snowboarders.

I for one vow to wear my helmet EVERYTIME I wear my snowboard.

We love you Danny.

WOAH?!?!?! Welcome to Montana... we didnt think you would survive the drive

The longest travel day I have ever had minus the time I went to Capetown South Africa. I can believe I did this, here is the breakdown: stay up all night and party with my friends in mass, depart party at 3:30am, drive to Logan International arrive at 3:45, stand in line to check my bags until 4:45, somehow made my flight at 5:15 (I had to cut the line and race through security) flew to Dallas and chilled. Flights delayed chilled some more. After 3 hrs realized I left my jacket on the other plane, ran back to the other terminal found it on the ground by the desk (HOLY CRAP DID NOT EXPECT THAT!) RAD ok so ran back and my flight was boarding. awesome.

Land in Denver at 1:15 (only an hour late). My board bag didn't make the fight, wait an extra hour or my bag good got it. Next i have to hop a bus into Denver and meet up with this kid who is friends with Conor. watched a dvd in his new house, got some grub at this sick mexican joint called Little Anitas. Then drove myself back to the Denver airport with the Shreddy Times vehicle. Waited a few hours for the Toumarkines to show up. They got off their only slightly delayed flight at 11:15pm.

We all packed the car full with little room for anything else and started our treacherous drive. the roads are snowy, icy and visibility is about 20 feet. at 4am we had had enough, pulled over and called it a night at a motel. settled in started coughing, after about an hour of sleep i wake up to find my nose had been bleeding for a minute. blood all over my pillow and the sheets. woke up got cleaned up and flipped the pillow. In the morning I gave the attendant $20 and said sorry about the sheets. 9am day two of traveling begins. We start driving again only to find that some of the roads are only half covered in snow and some are totally covered in ice. It took us a long and terrifying 18hrs to get to our hotel in Choteau, Montana, and oh yeah did I mention its New Years Eve?

We arrive in Choteau at 10:45 pm, this gave Conor and I 15 minutes to get our bags inside and rid our selves of the stink we had attained from a 18hr car ride and 1 stop at McDonalds before the next 45 minute bus ride to the mountain showed up. Flash forward through nearly an hour of chugging beers in the back of a VERY bumpy bus ride, on icy roads, speeding over 65 mph around corners, and meeting 3 other poor souls in that retched environment. We find ourselves in a 'lodge'/small bar which was about the size of our home in Tahoe City, and just barley do we realize this when we hear 10.. 9.. 8.. oh shit we made it Conor! HAPPY NEW YEARRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! Welcome to Montana.

Christmas on the east, oh what a beast

Got home and didn't stop I had to leave. The east coast is always gonna be home and I know that now, Once I got back I went to Killington for a premiere then rode Mt Snow the next day then loon the day after that. my mum missed me so much she came to pick me up at loon (a 3 hr drive) cus I hadn't even been to my house or seen any of my family yet.

The day after loon was Christmas eve so I went for a few laps at good old Lost Valley and finished wrapping the gifts I got for my family. Then made some sugar cookies with my aunt and went to Christmas eve mass. When I woke up in the morning I found a new avalanche beacon, shovel and probe awaiting me under the tree. My mum hooked it up this year so I can go get taught a few lessons by Mother Nature in the backcountry and not die while I learn, THANKS MUM!

The day after Christmas I went back to Loon for the annual ReLOONion which was a rad time! all sorts of friends showed up and it was good to see everybody. Next was a sunrise handrail in NH with Nevins and Hallowell and then another in ME all before my 1pm dentist appointment.  That night I finally rode street in my hometown of Augusta, ME with my buddies dad Eric shooting photos. I had been waitingto do that for years.

To round it off I had a nice down day at home with my fam and then a 5am flight to head west toward Montana. Never once stopped to smell the roses but they always smell the same so I'm not hurting about it. I'd rather see my friends and just live life to the fullest :) I think I did that on this trip. Thankyou everyone!
